East African cooking. Somali hospitality. A table made for gathering.

Martiya begins with welcome.

Hospitality is not an addition to the meal. It shapes the room, the pace of service, the food placed on the table, and the attention given to each guest.

At Martiya, welcome is practiced in the details: a place prepared before you arrive, dishes served with generosity, and tea that gives the conversation somewhere to continue.

Cooked with attention. Served generously.

Our cooking draws from Somalia and East Africa, from preparations carried forward and from the life those traditions continue to build in Minneapolis.

Warm spice is layered with purpose. Fire, time, brightness, and texture find their balance. Some dishes are passed across the table. Others ask for a slower moment of their own.

Hospitality in practice

Care is in the details.

Hospitality is more than service. It is attention: a warm welcome, food arriving with abundance, a table that invites everyone in, and tea that gives the evening time to unfold.

Martiya brings that sensibility into a contemporary Minneapolis dining room. The setting is considered, the cooking is expressive, and the welcome remains unmistakably Somali.

Martiya is a fresh take on African/Mediterranean food and the Twin Cities’first upscale, locally produced halal cuisine. Martiya was created to be a gathering place—for foodies and for families. For the gastronomically curious and those craving the flavors of home. For everyone to share. We believe we can bring different communities to the table by filling it with wonderful, mouthwatering dishes. Across every continent and culture, good food is our common ground.

WELCOME

In Somali, Martiya means guest. We invite you to be ours.
